My current work takes me to a place somewhere between the illusion called figurative and the abstract. Many of my favorite artists have created at this juncture. Frequently, works done in this place are referred to as surrealism, abstraction, modernism, transitional, outsider. I’m not trying to speak to god, to reinvent the wheel or to author the newest new, what interests me is what Richter coined “the daily practice of painting”.
I’ve lived in South Troy for 4 years now. I haven’t lived in a little town like this since I finished art school and moved to NYC. I look around me and things feel personal, I have a vision and a need to communicate it. My experience isn’t a shared experience. Not until I paint them. The paintings are small and fresh.
