I do quite a bit of photography and don’t pursue illusion or the perspective techniques of pictorial space in my painting or drawing. I have worked from photos and appropriated images, but for the most part I prefer to work from life.
Recently I’ve been finding inspiration from my new home in the Hudson River Valley, painting intimate plein air landscapes, waterscapes and the ruins of industrialization. They’re small, fresh, often decorative and nostalgic. I can’t get enough American Modernism.
