I usually work from life, painting intimate relationships. I’m constantly looking about and finding inspiration in daily life and the world at large. My approach to painting is nicely explained by a Robert Irwin quote,”Seeing is forgetting the name of the thing one sees.” I often paint from the same subject many times and always with new results. The work is abstraction. Its important to me to be genuine and fresh, and formally engaged. Studio work is essentially from still lifes and always with oils. A new series of landscape paintings are plein air and deal with similar pictorial, aesthetic and conceptual concerns as the studio work. In addition to my paintings, the watercolors are inspiring a series of large drawings on paper.
